Some of them turn out to be based on real experiences and then overgeneralized, others are rather taken from the environment, without being questioned and are also disproved by science or common sense. I have written below some of the most common workplace myths:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>People shy away from work and can&#8217;t wait to fling up one\u2019s heels when the program is over<\/em>. This type of belief usually gives rise to a leadership style based on micro-management or excessive control, where employees do not feel valued or appreciated. Moreover, it is an explanation flattering the managers\u2019 pride (they are entitled to be dissatisfied) and places them in a separate team from the people they manage. Although there may be individuals who are lazy, they are extremely few. A behavior characterized by the absence of initiative is actually about an employee who needs to feel that things are fair and that the value of their work, regardless of role or hierarchy, is recognized.<\/li>\n<li>If I really like my job \/ profession, then it won&#8217;t feel difficult or like work. In an ideal world, it probably wouldn\u2019t. In reality, no matter how much we love the profession we have or the professional role we are in, it will still mean effort and a high demand on our energy resources. In addition, every job has aspects that are less pleasant, more difficult or boring.<\/li>\n<li><em>Higher salary means higher job satisfaction<\/em>. Yes, the money we earn is important, but workplace satisfaction is mainly given by the professional recognition we receive, by successes, colleagues with whom we can collaborate, autonomy in decision-making, etc.<\/li>\n<li><em>If you are a true professional, your personal life will not influence in any way or form what you do at work<\/em>. As I&#8217;ve said before, we don&#8217;t have two distinct identities \u2013 one personal and one professional, and no button to push to activate one or the other. We are the same person; we just step into different roles according to different contexts. We take to work what happens to us at home and vice versa, even more if work has less routine and is less manual.<\/li>\n<li><em>Productivity depends on our mindset<\/em>. While mindset (the expectations we have of ourselves and our ability to adjust in the face of obstacles) plays a big role, productivity is much more complex than that. It concerns both the individual (mindset, organizational skills, procedural knowledge, etc.) and the organization (fair salary, clear definition of roles and responsibilities, organizational culture, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During therapy sessions I often hear various beliefs that people have linked to their workplace.
